MEMs Licensing Experience. As cofounder and
CTO of Movaz Networks, Dr. Smith
advised his company to exclusively license the seminal
Solgaard patent (US 6,922,239) and its substantial derivative portfolio on
MEMs optical switches and was responsible for the patent continuation program
and commercialization of that intellectual property.
MEMs Business Experience. As CTO of Movaz, Dr. Smith
supervised tha Advanced Technology Group charged with productizing
MEMS wavelength-selective optical switches and related free-space optical products. He also supervised systems experiments incorporating the MEMS optical crossconect in
data transmission trials.
MEMs Patents coauthored by Dr. Smith:
- 6,810,165 10/26/2004 Optical Cross Connect Utilizing Free Space Optics and an Array of Micro Mirrors
- 6,798,941 09/28/2004 Variable Transmission Multi-Channel Optical Switch
- 6,694,073 02/17/2004 Reconfigurable Free Space Wavelength Cross Connect

MEMS Optical Switch.
One of Dr. Smith's recently-issued patents in the area of
MEMS crossconnects for Recofigurable Add/Drop Multiplexers (ROADMs),
white-light optical crossconnects
and loss equalizers, among other applications. |
David A. Smith, Ph.D. has
twenty-five years of experience in research,
business and expert consulting. He has conducted research and developed products in MEMs technology
for optical applications over the last ten years. |
MEMs Research Experience and Articles. Dr. Smith is coauthor of a number of papers on MEMS for optics. Some work has been in optical switching, while other has been in deformable MEMS reflective lenses for adaptive optics.
